Novice/Mentor Principal Program

Clay County District Schools is committed to supporting principals that are new to the position in the district.  As soon as principals are appointed, they receive a mentor principal who is experienced and trained to serve in this capacity.  Novice and mentor principals meet in person throughout the year and engage in real-life scenarios, collaboration, and problem solving.  Professional learning opportunities are provided to the group that are relevant to the principalship and aligned to the Florida Educational Leadership Standards.

Justin Jones, Principal of Grove Park Elementary

"Having a mentor gave me an instant connection to an experienced leader that I could contact without any reservation. My mentor understood the challenges I was working through at my school, and was willing to collaborate with me anytime I needed her support. The thing I appreciated the most was the advocacy I received. Having a built-in support network has been invaluable."

"Working with my mentor has been a valuable and enriching experience.  I am thankful for the many conversations whether it be in person at our Mentor/Mentee meetings or through a text message.  His advice and guidance has helped me continue to cultivate a growth mindset as I navigate some of the challenges of a first year principal."
