Principal Certification Program

Once assistant principals have satisfactorily performed instructional leadership responsibilities as measured by the evaluation system and successfully completed one year as a school administrator (or its equivalent), current Clay County District Schools’ assistant principals are eligible to apply for this program. Obtaining Level II certification through this program is required to be considered for a principal position.  This 18 month course requires participants to complete tasks, assignments, field experiences, and professional readings that align to the Florida Educational Leadership Standards.

Tyler Wood, Principal, Orange Park Elementary

“As a new principal, I've quickly realized that theory and action are two different learning experiences. Fortunately, the Level II Leadership Program allowed us to explore leadership opportunities in a theory--based environment while also providing us the chance to embed real-world, applicable on-site experiences with current principals to further our ability and build our leadership capacity while working in the assistant principal role. With a reflective, collaborative, and mindful approach, we were able to work through activities, field-experiences, and meaningful scenario-based tasks that aligned with our leadership standards and the expectations for teaching and learning set forth by our county. As a result, we were able to target our areas of opportunity, develop best practice, and strengthen our skill in a way that influenced our trajectory and positively impacted all that we would ultimately be responsible for - our students, faculty, and staff.”

Courtney Schumacher, Principal of Ridgeview Elementary

"The Level II Principal’s Preparation program supported me in the transition from Assistant Principal to Principal. The program aligned to the Principal Leadership Standards and allowed my knowledge and skills to deepen in each of these domains. The real world applications and mentorship components made the work in the program directly relevant to Clay County District Schools. I have no doubt that being a part of this program and networking with administrators here in Clay County positively impacted my journey to Principal."
